Rick Goche, his wife Robin, and his daughter Leah own a home and a small tree farm in Coquille, about four miles up Fairview road. Rick has worked for most of the last 40 years as a commercial fisherman. He fishes out of Charleston for salmon and tuna.
Rick has a costal perspective. He is President of Aquatic Resources Inc. which manufactures a live system component that is widely used in the live seafood business all along the west coast. Rick co-founded the Klamath Common Ground Alliance, which works to reconcile decades of conflict between Klamath farmers, Tribal fishermen, and ocean salmon trollers. In 2006 Rick successfully lobbied to get $60.4 million in Federal Disaster Relief for salmon fishermen after the devastating 2006 salmon season. Rick has served on the Oregon Salmon Commodity Commission, Dungeness Crab Commodity Commission, Tri-State Crab Committee, and is currently the vice chair of the Oregon Albacore Commission. In the 80s Rick pioneered the live Dungeness crab industry, shipping live crab across the U.S. and to Asia, which has added millions of dollars to our coastal communities. Rick has also been a seafood buyer, a live seafood consultant, and a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point ( HACCP) Systems consultant. Rick volunteers for Oregon Special Olympics, and the Oregon State Correctional System.
Rick grew up fishing in Tillamook, Oregon. When he was just thirteen years old, he was hired by Oregon State University Department of Fisheries. He worked for OSU as a fisheries technician through junior high, high school, and into college. When he was in college he realized that he really just wanted to fish.
The reason Rick is running for office is because he is concerned about the direction this administration has been taking us, and wants to take care of what he can do at the local level. He wants to do his best for his children and grandchildren. He was compelled to run for office by his love for our rural lifestyle and the need to preserve it.
